【TCM Medical Record】:
The patient presented with no obvious signs of hot or cold. The main complaint was migraine headaches during periods of significant academic stress, primarily localized to the splenius capitis and semispinalis capitis muscles. This originally suggested a Gegen Tang (Kudzu Decoction) syndrome. However, upon observation, the patient’s lips were dark and purplish, and their complexion was pale, indicating a facial presentation of blood deficiency mixed with blood stasis. Coupled with a sedentary lifestyle, prescribing a strong, high-dose formula like Gegen Tang to promote fluids and warm yang would exacerbate the patient’s feeling of weakness. Therefore, the following formula was prescribed.
【Prescription】:
- Cinnamon Twig Tip (Guizhi Jian), Peach Kernel (Taoren), Poria (Fuling), Moutan Bark (Mudanpi), Red Peony Root (Chishao): 15g each
- Kudzu Root (Chaigegen): 20g
- Gastrodia Tuber (Tianma): 12g
- Prunella Spike (Xiakucao), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang): 8g each
5 doses, one dose taken three times a day before meals.
【Follow-up】:
The headaches were greatly relieved, and the patient no longer experienced headaches when under stress. There has been no recurrence for six months, and their complexion appears improved.
