Tongue Tip Tremor TCM Medical Case

Ancient texts describe treating an enlarged tongue. Dr. Wang Hongtu’s medical records describe treating a tongue that protrudes and cannot be retracted. My case specifically deals with tongue tip tremor.

Past Medical History:

A 38-year-old female with a history of premature ovarian failure. After treatment for metrorrhagia/metrostaxis with Poge Jiuxin (Breaking the Pattern to Save the Heart) formula, her menstruation stopped.

Specific Medical Case:

April 21, 2025: Patient presented with tongue tip tremor and profuse sweating on the back of the neck. Inquiry revealed poor sleep in recent days. She also experienced aversion to cold but her urination and defecation were normal.

Prescription 1:

  • Prepared Aconite (Pao Fuzi): 15g
  • Cinnamon Bark (Rougui): 6g
  • Raw White Peony Root (Sheng Baishao): 10g
  • Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang): 2 slices
  • Jujube (Dazao): 3 pieces (sliced)
  • Baked Licorice (Zhigancao): 10g

3 doses prescribed.

Prescription 2: Borneol (Bingpian) for sublingual use.

Follow-up:

April 22, 2025: The patient went to bed early last night, and the tongue tremor had stopped. There was a recurrence at noon, but it subsequently ceased. The patient was advised to stop the medication and observe.

(Referencing a medical case by Professor Wang Hongtu: A patient with anxiety and irritability had a tongue protruding outwards that could not be retracted. Treatment involved sublingual borneol, needling Neiguan (PC6) to drain the Pericardium channel, and a prescription of Huanglian Wendan Tang. The patient was able to sleep at night, and the tongue retracted.)
