Yi Yi Fu Zi Bai Jiang San
Treats all diseases caused by insufficient Yang Qi, dampness-heat, and blood stasis (adjust according to symptoms).
The original formula for this prescription in the Shang Han Lun uses “fen” as a unit of measurement. However, this unit did not exist during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Therefore, in this article, it refers to the ratio of medicinal dosages: Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) 10 parts, Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Root) 2 parts, Bai Jiang Cao (Patrinia) 5 parts.
Reference Dosage:
- Yi Yi Ren: 30g
- Fu Zi: 6g
- Bai Jiang Cao: 15g
Clinical Dosage:
- Yi Yi Ren: 30-100g
- Fu Zi: 10-15g
- Bai Jiang Cao: 30-60g (fresh herb with root can be used up to 100g)
For acute conditions, the ratio of Yi Yi Ren to Fu Zi is 4:1 to 5:1.
For treating chronic conditions, the ratio of Yi Yi Ren to Fu Zi is 3:1 to 1:1.
The longer the disease course, the higher the proportion of Fu Zi should be. In this way, the role of Fu Zi in the formula changes from invigorating Yang Qi to warming Yang and resolving dampness.
